This is my biggest pet peeve as well. I am known for leaving websites that have an abundance of mistakes such as the ones you provided. I find my trust is lessened if I don't feel that the owners of the website or e-mail care enough to proofread their work.

Linda, I love what you have to say. You are a light in a world where people no longer seem to value the written word! Going back centuries, the Bible mentions, "a word fitly spoken, in due season." We seem to have forgotten the "fitly" part!

This is a frequent pet-peeve of mine, as well. Even more frustrating are those who use "text speak" instead of actually typing the entire word. Are they lazy, or simply not smart enough to know the entire word? It makes me wonder how they continue to succeed in life. As well, it really makes you question the abilities of those who use "text speak" on their website, blog, Facebook and Twitter, and expect that we believe them when they call themselves writers!

I got worried when I saw your headline! I thought, "networking shortage, what? Where?" As you know, we have an abundance of networking opportunities in Metro Detroit. It never occurred to me that they were talking about IT/technology, until I read the rest of your post. Like you, I didn't think about that kind of networking. I'm surprised to hear there's a shortage of that too. I wonder if it's because technology changes so quickly and they don't have enough skilled people to keep up with the current demand.

As for what to wear, the PJ's might be o.k., if you've got your "thinking cap" on! Thanks for the compelling read as always.

Great post, Linda. (And I learned something about your job; wasn't totally aware of what you did.) Like you, I remain conflicted about this issue. I hear so many wonderful things about Nooks and Readers ... I've been tempted to buy one. But still resist. I am still a fan of dead tree books, for all the reasons you noted, and pure aesthetics. I love tucking a book in my tote bag, or reaching for one on my nightstand. Love the smell of paper, the type on paper...

I feel the same way Linda. I often read articles "on the fly" on my blackberry or computer, and that convenience is nice. As for books, I like to hold them, highlight certain passages, and make notes on the page or in a journal. I don't know if I'll ever succumb to the Kindle or other such devices. I'll keep buying books as long as they keep printing them!
